A lot of my peers (old enough to have actually attended Woodstock) are worried that they are falling behind because the don’t “get” Facebook and Twitter. Not to worry. There are people who can help you, but I suggest you do some listening before you spend $10K to hire a firm to “do social media” for you. They may get you noticed online. They can’t get you hired. Only you can do that. More on this later.
Here is a link to a wonderful post on how to select a social media expert written by Ian Lurie. The name of his site, Conversation Marketing, says it all. The internet can be one great big conversation, and using the tools well will help people find you. But if you have nothing to say when they do, or if what you are saying is not what they are interested in, there will be no sale.
